Brain and Spine Institute

The Brain and Spine Institute at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills provides complete care for the brain and spine. Time is an important factor with most medical issues, but especially with stroke and neurological conditions. At the Hospital, a team of neurosurgeons is on-site who are trained in the treatment of brain, spine and acute stroke procedures. Having all of these services offered in one location means patients will no longer need to travel outside Pasco County, saving precious time, which is a critical factor for neurological conditions..

More than Stroke Treatment

The Brain and Spine Institute offers a dedicated stroke team, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team includes academic neurosurgeons from USF Health, neuro-interventional radiologists, board certified neurologists and emergency physicians, and stroke certified registered nurses to coordinate care from triage to diagnosis to treatment to recovery.

The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, recently recognized Florida Hospital Zephyrhills with Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. Additionally, the Institute has been awarded a “Silver Plus” for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association “Get with the Guidelines” program.

Partnership with USF Health

“Our partnership with USF Health will bring their leading-edge research right to the doorsteps of residents in communities where we have hospitals in Tampa Bay,” said Mike Schultz, President and CEO of the Florida Region for Adventist Health System, the parent company of Florida Hospital. “Patients in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties will no longer have to travel for personalized and state-of-the-art medicine in the specialties where we have affiliations with USF Health.”

“We are excited about collaborating with USF Health because it combines the power of academic, research-based medicine with community based neurologist and primary care physicians to offer the full continuum of care,” said Doug Duffield, President and CEO of Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. “With a brain or spine emergency a patient may go to their closest emergency department and then get transferred to another hospital for treatment, losing valuable time. Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Brain and Spine Institute will offer comprehensive neurological care right in our community.”
