This was awesome…what a fabulous class…she didn’t talk over our head, she talked on our level…these were just some of the sentiments expressed during the Emergency Triage Toolbelt workshop. Florida Hospital Zephyrhills sponsored a two-day seminar for emergency room nurses, nurse managers, educators and nurse graduates.
Shelley Cohen, RN, BS, CEN, an author and nationally known speaker presented the seminar. Cohen uses humor and reality-based education to teach her classes. Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Chief Nursing Officer, Ruth Hemphill, RN, heard Cohen approximately two years ago and felt this seminar would be of great benefit to our emergency nurses. The class of about 80 nurses came from Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky and as far away as Colorado to hear Cohen.

It is a well know fact that emergency rooms in our country are facing increasing wait times and overcrowding. The focus of this class was to teach the emergency triage nurse how to cope with this problem and how to quickly triage and move the patients through the emergency department for better, quicker treatment.
The goal of the emergency staff is to treat the patient in a timely manner by triaging the patient quickly, as well as properly categorizing the illness or injury. This allows the sickest patients or those with traumatic injuries to receive first priority from the physicians.
Florida Hospital Zephyrhills is committed to providing quality patient care. The knowledge that Cohen brought will allow our triage nurses to fulfill that commitment.
Florida Hospital…the skill to heal…the spirit to care.
