Winn-Dixie Foundation Makes Donation to Wellness Center at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills

9/13/2007

The Winn-Dixie Foundation made a donation to the Wellness Center at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills in the amount of $10,000. The funds have gone towards the purchase of two body mass index (BMI) testing machines, one for adults and one for children. The machines determine height and weight, which assist in determining BMI and body composition, the percentage of body fat. The mission of the Wellness Center is to promote wellness in the communities we serve through lifestyle change. The BMI testers will be used in conjunction with our 12 Weeks to Wellness program.

Frank James, District Manager for Winn-Dixie’s Orlando region presented the check to John Harding, CEO of Florida Hospital Zephyrhills and Sharon Heinrich, Foundation Director Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. “We (Winn-Dixie) are very proud to participate in a program that increases one’s sense of wellness,” stated James. He was truly impressed with the BMI machines and the 12 Weeks to Wellness program. He was inspired to re-start his exercise program and come back to test out the BMI machines once he loses some weight.

John Harding, CEO Florida Hospital Zephyrhills, expressed his deep appreciation to the Winn-Dixie Foundation for their generous donation to the Wellness Center. Judson Baggett, local CPA and Zephyrhills Citizen of the year, gave a brief testimony on how the 12 Weeks to Wellness program changed his life. Baggett attended the first 12 Weeks to Wellness classes. He had rheumatoid arthritis, was walking with a cane and had a blood sugar of 260. After the classes, he no longer walked with a cane, lost weight and his blood sugar dropped to 180. “The Wellness Center has changed my life. I can do anything I want to now,” proclaims Baggett who just came back from a mountain climbing trip.

12 Weeks to Wellness Program

The 12 Weeks to Wellness program is a once-a-week class held in the FHZ Wellness Center conference room. The goal of the program is to increase knowledge and promote healthy behavior and attitudes. In the past, many participants have lost weight, enjoyed a deeper peace, gained confidence to change and have found new direction in their lives. The seminar is highly successful in reversing diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
