From the moment of a diagnosis of breast cancer, a patient may face uncertainty, fear, anxiety, and an urgency to do something immediately to cure the disease. Unfortunately, the complicated journey from initial detection to diagnosis to treatment can take weeks or even months as the patient must navigate through a variety of appointments and specialists. To further complicate and confuse matters, the treatment of breast disease, including the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer, requires the interaction of multiple specialists in multiple departments. The average patient is understandably confused by the myriad of individuals involved in their diagnosis and care. In fact, the physician team alone may consist of:

• Primary Care Physician
• Radiologist
• Pathologist
• Surgeon
• Plastic Surgeon
• Radiation Oncologist
• Medical Oncologist

This, of course, doesn’t even take into consideration the multitude of nurses, technicians, insurance companies and office staff.

The Naming of the Simpson Breast Health Center

In September 2011, longtime Pasco County business owner Wilton Simpson and his wife Kathy made a $250,000 gift to the Florida Hospital Zephyrhills Foundation that resulted in the naming of the Breast Health Center at Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. The new Center is now The Simpson Breast Health

“It’s through a strong partnership between the Hospital and our community which allows us to provide innovative programs like our new Breast Health Center,” says Doug Duffield, president & CEO, Florida Hospital Zephyrhills. “We sincerely thank Mr. Simpson for his generosity and support of the hospital and the community we serve.”

Wilton Simpson said, “We are confident that our gift will help Florida Hospital Zephyrhills to continue to provide the highest level of care in a state-of-theart breast health center. We believe that this new Center will make it possible for more people to obtain screenings, resulting in an improvement in the early detection of breast cancer.”
